Known Screen Sharing Issues

This article lists all known Highfive screen sharing issues:

Offset mouse cursor

What it looks like:

When sharing your screen, the mouse cursor position on your screen does not match what you see on your TV or what other participants see on their end.

Context:

This will occur for Windows users who have changed their screen's DPI or font scaling settings and do not reboot their computers before using Highfive.

Workaround/Fix:

Microsoft recommends rebooting the computer to resolve this issue. Afterwards, try sharing your screen again to see if the problem persists.

Application window is not displayed

What it looks like:

The application window you'd like to share does not appear on the list of available application windows to share.

Context:

This issue will occur under various conditions:

  • Your application window is minimized while Highfive's application window selection menu is open.
  • Highfive Desktop application: Your application is opened after Highfive's application window selection menu.
  • Windows 8 and up: Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications will not be displayed as a selectable application window.
  • Some UWP windows, like Powerpoint in Presentation mode, are also non-selectable.

Workaround/Fix:

  1. Make sure the application that you wish to share is opened and not minimized.
  2. Share your entire screen instead.

Black window displayed instead of application window

What it looks like:

This is only known to occur on Windows computers. After you click “Share Screen” you will see a preview window to select which screen/window/tab you’d like to share. You would see the application window you’d like to share render as black during previewing. Or, once sharing, your application window may render as a black screen to the participants you are presenting to.

Context:

We believe this issue will occur under the following conditions:

  • Sharing certain types of applications, such as:
  • Sharing Google Chrome tabs from the Highfive desktop application.

Workaround/Fix:

  1. Try sharing the application window, even if it renders as black during previewing. On rare occasions, your participant(s) will be able to see it successfully.
  2. Share your entire screen instead.

No Screenshare Button on the Home Screen

What it looks like:

After loading Highfive in the browser or the app on your computer, there are options for "Create meeting" and "Join meeting" without the option to share your screen directly.

Context:

The Share Screen option appears only after at least one device has been provisioned in the domain. The following workaround will also work for software-only plans.

Workaround:

  1. Join a meeting.
  2. Choose the "Share Screen" option.
